Dish Network offers a national HD package with the channels below.

ESPN HD, ESPN2 HD, HDNet, HDNet Movies, Discovery HD Theater, TNT HD, Universal HD and The Voom 15 Suite.

The Voom 15 suite includes 15 HDTV channels and they are listed below.

WorldSportHD, RushHD, MonstersHD, WorldCinemaHD, FilmFestHD, KungFuHD, EquatorHD, AnimaniaHD, GamePlayHD, FamilyRoomHD, GalleryHD, HDNews, RaveHD, TreasureHD and UltraHD.

They also offer HBO HD and Showtime HD.  Satellite companies at this time cannot offer true two-way VOD services like cable companies can today so any DVR service a satellite company offers today is just run on a special channel and copied to a DVR box.

Dish Network has recently launched HD local channels in the top 10 or so markets to compete with DirecTV on this front.  Because of this some of the new national HD channels and all of the local HD channels will require a new MPEG4 box from Dish Network.  Upgrades aren't free but they are low cost and as such availability is of some concern at this point on both satellite companies.  But Dish Network does have an MPEG4 HD DVR which DirecTV doesn't have quite yet.  Dish Network also offers a lease option on their HD DVR with a 250.00 one time upfront charge.  Dish Network also will offer a portable Dish Player as well.  Also Starz HD might also be offered on Dish Network soon.

I also must make you aware that Dish Network is doing what many of us called HD-Lite. HD-Lite means that Dish Network for example is sending you an HDTV signal that they are lowering the quality of.  This is being done to save bandwidth but it seems that Dish Network isn't as bad as DirecTV is right now.  I expect this issue to be a thing of the past as time goes on but for now you must be made aware of this with the kind of money you will be spending.
